Abdelilah Bouzidi, former member of the executive committee, describes as “normal” the delay taken by Nizar Baraka. Another activist, a deputy in the House of Representatives, estimated under cover of anonymity that the number one of the Libra party “wants to end” to what was called before the 18th Congress, “the tugging” between the current of Hamdi Ould Errachid, the strong man of Istiqlal in the Saharan provinces and that of the followers of the doctrine without air (literally “without respite”), roadmap of the historical founder of Istiqlal, the late Allal El Fassi.

It should be recalled that these tensions between the two blocs had raised fears, two years ago, of a split within the Istiqlal party. According to our source, Nizar Baraka is turning the page on these divisions by reaching an amicable settlement that would tend to grant 8 seats out of 34 members within the political bureau to the wing of Ould Errachid, deputy and president of the municipality of Laayoune.

It was not possible to confirm this information with Nizar Baraka and his relatives. Indeed, several Istiqlal leaders contacted by Le360 refused to comment on the ongoing negotiations for the formation of the executive committee. What is certain is that at least three people close to Ould Errachid, according to the activist who spoke on condition of anonymity, will be on the next executive committee. First, they are Ould Errachid, mayor of Laayoune, Enaam Mayara, the current president of the House of Councilors, and Rahal Rahali, former parliamentary advisor and former member of the executive committee.

It should be noted that out of the 34 members of his next cabinet, Nizar Baraka has granted himself the right to personally appoint four. According to Abdalilah Bouzidi, one of the few senior Istiqlal officials to have spoken publicly, Nizar Baraka’s consultations aim to allow him to form a team “strong meeting the criteria». «I don’t think there are any difficulties. The SG normally took his time in choosing and consulting.“, said Abdalilah Bouzidi, lawyer and president of the Agdal district in Rabat.

This senior official nevertheless dismissed out of hand the indications that Nizar Baraka and Ould Errachid had reached a so-called agreement. To my knowledge, the national council born from the 18th congress has assigned Nizar Baraka and him alone to form the next executive committee.“, concluded Abdelilah Bouzidi.
