The Almayer Madness is Chantal Akerman's adaptation of the eponymous novel by Joseph Conrad. A story of passion, perdition and madness somewhere in Southeast Asia that the filmmaker shot in Cambodia in 2010 with Stanislas Merhar, Aurora Marion and Marc Barbé in the lead roles. Present on the set, Sopheak Sao filmed the filmmaker at work in the heart of exotic vegetation and in the black waters of a river that seems to lead nowhere. The images he filmed were edited in 2021 by Belgian editor Marwan Montel and show how formal and aesthetic work takes precedence over the narrative aspect in the work of the Belgian director. A wonderful opportunity to meet her up close and immerse yourself in the heart of her work.
