Qualified! The French team has – once again – knocked out Belgium in the round of 16 of Euro 2024. Despite a collectively disappointing performance, the essentials are there, and Antoine Griezmann is perfectly happy with it.
For this French team, the result seems to be the only thing that matters. Highly criticizable since the start of the Euro, the Blues remain undefeated, and are now qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition.
Against Belgium, the Tricolores faced a wall of Red Devils, which they managed to break through at the very end of the match (1-0, 85th). A rather frustrating spectacle for observers and supporters, but not for Antoine Griezmann.
“A small score? Don’t bother with a small score or anything, we’re in the quarterfinals. Great defensive game from the team. Without a great defense, you can’t go far. It was still a new system for us, we have to get used to it” said the French leader into the microphone of BeIN Sports after the game.
Les Bleus have therefore reached the quarter-finals of the Euro for the first time since 2016. Having fallen into the tough final phase draw, the French team will find out who their opponent will be this Monday evening, after the match between Portugal and Slovenia.
The winner of this round of 16 will return to France next Friday (9:00 p.m.), to move even closer to the coveted trophy.
