Formula 1 | Vasseur: Not a bad weekend but frustration

Ferrari endured another difficult weekend in Austria, with performances that left them the fourth force behind Red Bull, McLaren F1 and Mercedes. Team principal Frédéric Vasseur was pleased with Carlos Sainz’s podium finish, while he regretted Charles Leclerc’s wasted race.

“The race gives us mixed feelings because it’s positive to get back on the podium with Carlos, who had a solid race and brought good points for the championship, but we didn’t score with Charles, involved in an incident race at the start” Vasseur notes.

“So overall it’s not a bad weekend, although there is a bit of frustration because we probably could have done better, especially at the beginning. We’ve made a good step forward since Friday morning, but it’s not enough and we have to keep pushing because we have to have two cars fighting for maximum points in every race.”

The Frenchman is convinced that the Scuderia must improve their qualifications to fight up front. He also notes that the overall level in Formula 1 is impressive and that the spectacle is very present.

“Once again we need to work to improve our pace in qualifying because starting closer to the front in such a tight field means having a better chance of finishing ahead, taking opportunities and staying out of trouble.”

“A final word on this weekend, seeing such a close fight for the lead, with drivers really pushing each other, only to end with an unexpected winner, when there were other battles all around. so exciting further down the pack, is certainly very good for the popularity of the sport.”
