On this Sunday, June 30, 2024, an air of revenge hovered over the 5e constituency Yvelines. The outgoing MP, Yaël Braun-Pivet came out on top with 42.80% of the vote, increasing her score by more than 6 points compared to 2022 when she obtained 36.59% of the vote.

The match with Jacques Myard, deputy from 1993 to 2017, and historic mayor of Maisons-Laffitte, turned in favour of the former President of the National Assembly. The Republican candidate, allied with the National Rally, obtained 22.90% of the votes. For comparison, during the 1is round of the 2022 legislative elections, the candidate Les Républicains Alexandra Dublanche (17.90%) and that of the National Rally, Mathilde Androuët (7.78%), together obtained 25.68% in this constituency. Jacques Myard was unable to unite the two electorates.

On the other hand, the New Popular Front candidate, Yassine Benyettou, gave him a score honorable with 27.32%, doing better than the Nupes candidate in 2022 who had been credited with 23.55% of the votes.

Yaël Braun-Pivet: “The National Rally, the fight of my life”

Yaël Braun-Pivet is pleased to be in the lead and does not intend to give up until the second round of the legislative elections on Sunday, July 7. “For our republican values, for a third reasonable and responsible force, capable of uniting and calming, I will fight to the end!”, she wrote on X. The outgoing President of the National Assembly is clear on her positions: ” Not a voice for the National Rallyit’s the fight of my life,” she explained on the TF1 set.

“We must block the RN, they do not share the values of the Republic that I defend.”

Yassine Benyettou is satisfied with the results. “We are happy because we have put the extreme right aside and thebaron local that is the mayor of Maisons-Laffitte, Jacques Myard, far behind, he declares. This was the first danger. Then there is Yaël Braun-Pivet opposite who relied on a strong center-left electorate. These people, who voted for Glucksmann in the European elections, thought that she was the useful vote. We’re going to show them that it’s us. We’re going to go get them. »

Increased participation, particularly in Sartrouville

In this constituency, participation has increased significantly, from 53.13% in 2022 to 71.17% in 2024. Particularly in Sartrouville, which increased from 45.14% in 2022 to 64.96% in 2024. But for the NFP candidate, there is still work to be done. “Sartrouville voted a lot, especially in working-class neighborhoods,” observes Yassine Benyettou. “But we have a reserve of votes.”

“We have people to convince. We are the useful vote in favor of public services. There are also people who doubt the macronie who voted for Myard, we must tell them that the real barrier against the macronie is us, the real alternative. »

Yassine Benyettou

For Jacques Myard, his gamble to ally himself with the National Rally has resulted in a mixed result. He failed to convince in his commune, where he has been mayor since 1989. He came second. He is nevertheless pleased to be in the second round, announcing that “the fight continues”.

“I’m not in the habit of complaining, I never engage in ad hominem combat. I defend my positions, that doesn’t change. It’s that simple. »
