Euro 2024: France – Belgium (1-0) The Blues advance to the quarterfinals! – UEFA EURO 2024

Thanks to a late goal, the Blues qualified in the quarter by beating a weak Belgian team which did not show much. The best team won at the end of a stressful match.

The Blues waited until the very end of the match to find the net and beat a Belgian team which only distinguished itself by two strikes from De Bruyne and Lukaku. The French team hit 20 times on goal and only had three shots on target. The Vice-world champions annihilated Doku, Lukaku and De Bruyne and showed themselves superior to the Red Devils. Jules Koundé, named man of the match, shone both in defense and attack. Once again, the Blues did not concede a goal and showed enormous defensive potential and despite the chances not on target, the French team also demonstrated formidable offensive power.

It’s halftime in Düsseldorf! The Blues generally dominated the proceedings and created the best chances in the first period. Koundé and Hernandez brought danger in the corridors and Marcus Thuram was close to opening the scoring as did Aurélien Tchouaméni who placed two nice shots unfortunately not on target. Adrien Rabiot, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Antoine Griezmann were warned.

PREMATCH

This is the second time that France have played in Düsseldorf since the start of the competition. It was in this city that Didier Deschamps’ men obtained their only victory at Euro 2024. A sign?

The French team will play in white for this round of 16. This is the third time since the start of Euro 2024 after the matches against Austria and the Netherlands.

Both teams finished second in their respective groups. France is still undefeated (two draws, one victory) while the Belgians lost from the start against Slovakia before taking four points in two matches.

The last meeting between the two teams dates back to 2021 in the Nations League. The French team won 2-3 after being led 0-2. That evening Karim Benzema, Kylian Mbappé and Théo Hernandez were the scorers for the Blues.

The Blues’ defense, which has only conceded one goal in three games, has not changed. The question of this game system concerns the animation in the corridorssince for the first time in the competition, Didier Deschamps decided not to align his 4-3-3 with offensive players on the wings, like Ousmane Dembélé.

Antoine Griezmann is indeed back in the blue starting lineup! As announced several days ago, he should play in a four-man midfield with the trio N’Golo Kanté, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Adrien Rabiot, who performed satisfactorily against Poland.

This quartet will support captain Kylian Mbappé associated with Marcus Thuram on the attacking front.

There are several new additions to the Belgian starting lineup. Trossard, Tielemans and Lukebakio take their places on the bench. Lois Openda, the former Lens player, will make his first start during this Euro 2024, of which he only played 8 minutes in two matches! Started on the first day during the defeat against Slovakia, Former Atletico Madrid and AS Monaco player Yannick Carrasco returns to the starting eleven.

The referee of the match is the Swede Glenn Nyberg.

Here are the compositions of France – Poland:

France : Maignan – Koundé, Saliba, Upamecano, Hernandez – Kanté, Tchouaméni, Rabiot, Griezmann -Mbappé (Cap.), Thuram

Coach: Didier Deschamps

Belgium : Casteels – Castagne, Faes, Vertonghen, Theate – De Bruyne (Cap.), Onana, Carrasco – Openda, Lukaku, Doku
