The accident occurred while a train was passing through the city center.

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a train early Monday in downtown Moncton.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police were notified around 6 a.m.
The collision reportedly occurred at the corner of Victoria and Robinson streets.
Tragedy on Canada Day
Robert McKay had just finished having coffee with two friends when he heard a loud noise. “The train came to a complete stop. I didn’t know what was happening. I thought maybe the wheels of the train had caught fire,” he said.

A few minutes later, as he was returning home, he arrived at the scene of the tragedy. “I saw a lot of police officers there. It’s terrible, and it’s Canada Day.”

Canadian National and the RCMP are investigating.

Several road closures were in effect Monday morning. This concerned rue Victoria de Lutz in Churchthe street Robinson from Queen to St. George and the two intersections of the streets Church and Lutz and St. George Streets and Church.
They were lifted around 10:30 a.m.

An investigation of the GRC a you CN
The GRCCanadian National (CN) agents, paramedics and a coroner were on scene.
The train was able to resume its journey around 10:15 a.m.
Agents of the CN are investigating whether any equipment malfunctioned at the time of the accident.
The GRC The investigation is continuing to determine the cause of the accident. Officers are also seeking to obtain CCTV footage.
