NHL: Help for Vancouver with the signing of Jake DeBrusk

Jake DeBrusk, who was enjoying full autonomy for the first time in his career, decided to hit the road to Vancouver.

The Canucks signed DeBrusk to a seven-year, $38.5 million contract, which will give him an annual average of $5.5 million.

A first-round pick in 2015, DeBrusk reached the 40-point plateau in a season for the fifth time in his career in 2023-24 and for the third year in a row. He had 19 goals and 21 assists in 80 games.

A 27-year-old forward, Carrier has totaled 138 goals and 266 points in 465 games in the NHL. He had just completed the final season of a two-year, $4 million per season contract.

Sherwood and Heinen also in Vancouver

The Canucks also signed forwards Kiefer Sherwood and Danton Heinen to two-year contracts.

Sherwood will receive $1.5 million per season, while Heinen will be paid an average of $2.25 million per campaign.

In his first full NHL season in 2023-24, Sherwood had 10 goals and 27 points in 68 games with the Nashville Predators.

For his part, Heinen spent the last year with the Boston Bruins, with whom he amassed 17 goals and 36 points in 74 games, the second best harvest of his career.

Heinen has 87 goals and 212 points in 487 NHL games.
