The Petit-Saguenay village revitalization project completed

This project, worth more than $4.8 million and carried out in 2023-2024, enabled the complete redevelopment of public spaces in the village of Petit-Saguenay.

The Promenade Mathilde-Tremblay, which runs along Route 170, has been completely restructured, with a granite screening sidewalk with ecological fixative, new on-street parking spaces and the planting of plants. In addition, a terrace cantilevered over the Petit-Saguenay River that crosses the village. In addition, a rest area for cyclists has been added at the end of the promenade, near the snack bar, whose courtyard and terrace have been completely redesigned.

The tourist information office has undergone some transformations to add access for people with reduced mobility, in addition to accommodating a daycare center in the part previously occupied by a credit union. A recreational vehicle parking lot has also been created at the foot of the cliffs, at the rear of the building, and two fast charging stations from the Hydro-Québec Electric Circuit have been added.

Parc de la Croix, located on the other bank of the Petit-Saguenay River, has also been given a makeover with the addition of a wooden community pavilion, a toilet block, water games and lit petanque courts. The park is connected to developments along Route 170 by a pedestrian and cycle bridge 40 meters above the river.

This entire investment comes from the contribution of the Government of Quebec, Infrastructure Canada and Canada Economic Development. In addition, there are contributions from the MRC du Fjord, the Caisse Desjardins La Baie – Bas-Saguenay, the Regroupement Loisir et Sport du Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean and the Canadian Healthy Communities Initiative Foundation. The Municipality of Petit-Saguenay has contracted a loan by-law of $510,000 to carry out this project.
