Paris Olympics: International travelers will “avoid” Paris during the Olympic Games, deplores Air France

The airline is concerned about a lack of interest from international tourists in Paris during the Olympics.

Air France-KLM observe un “notable avoidance behavior” of the French capital by international travelers. As a result, the company anticipates a drop in its unit revenues, estimated between 160 and 180 million euros for the period from June to August, the high season period, according to a press release from the Franco-Dutch group, relayed by 20 Minutes.

Traffic drop expected

This “pressure on unit revenues” is observed by both Air France and Transavia, the group’s low-cost airline. The decrease in traffic to and from Paris is attributed to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The expected traffic to the French capital is lower than that expected to other major European cities, the same press release continues.

Holiday postponement

In addition to this behavior of avoidance of Paris by foreign travelers, Air France-KLM notes that trips from Paris to other destinations are also down compared to the usual average for the June-August period.

For the airline, “French residents appear to be postponing vacations until after the Olympics or choosing alternative travel options”.

Despite this warning, Air France-KLM assures that the event does not for the moment affect its capacity prospects, that is to say the number of seats available for its customers.
