So much water, so much water. HAS Creil (Oise), this Saturday, November 23, it was not just a fantasy!
Nothing to do, however, with bad weather. Under the effect of pressure, an old cast iron drinking water pipe has in fact given way to the crossing between rue de la République and rue de Marlcausing a significant flooding in the city center the day before yesterday, around noon.
Several thousand liters of water poured into the city center
The alert had been given an hour earlier, as water began to emerge dangerously from the asphalt and spread throughout the commercial city center.
Torrents of mixed water and mud flooded the roadway rue de la Républiquebetween the streets Aristide-Briand and Jules-Michelet. Place du 8-Mai was also invaded by water due to this pipe leak.
Suez technical agents worked a good part of Saturday to resolve this problem, while some cars found themselves driving around with their wheels in the water. Strong disruptions in the distribution of drinking water were also observed.
While businesses have, on the whole, not been affected, the cellar of a building ended up flooded.
Bottles of water distributed
At 12:30 p.m., the decision was finally made to close Rue de la République to traffic.
“Most downtown streets were replenished with running water by mid-afternoon,” the city said. Drinking water bottles were also distributed to those who had not been replenished within a reasonable time
A security perimeter was also deployed by the fire services jointly with the police.
Electricity was also cut between Place du 8-Mai and Rue Aristide Briand, while repairs were carried out.
