After meeting and discussing with several coaches including Laurent Battles, Olivier Echouafni and Xavier Collin, AC Ajaccio and Johan Cavalli, the sports manager finally set their sights on Mathieu Chabert, the former coach of Le Mans. Aged 45, Mathieu Chabert took Sporting Club de Bastia into National 1 then Ligue 2 before being dismissed in September 2021, after just one victory in 9 championship days.

A coach committed to coaching the ACA, regardless of division

He then had the Berrichonne de Châteauroux in National before taking the dreams of the Dunkerque club, which he had brought into Ligue 2 after a second place obtained in 2023. After his dismissal from the northern club, he was the coach of the Le Mans club last season with a record of 7 wins, 3 draws and defeats to his name.

The Ajaccio club, relegated to the National by the DNCG in recent days, has appealed the decision and should know its fate around mid-July. A decision that the new Ajaccio coach does not seem to want to wait for, visibly determined to take the reins of the ACA, whatever division the red and white club will play in.

He will have the difficult task of taking over from Olivier Pantaloni, who had succeeded in anchoring the club at the professional level and rebuilding a competitive team that will experience many upheavals in the coming weeks. A group whose resumption is set for Monday, July 8.
