Michel Sala, outgoing deputy and candidate of the new popular front, is in difficulty for the second round against Alexandre Allegret-Pilot, Ciottist candidate supported by the RN. Both are banking on the carryover of votes granted to Catherine Daufès-Roux, candidate for the presidential party.

The day after the evening of the first round, this Monday July 1, Michel Sala learned of the results obtained, commune by commune, in the 5th constituency of Gard.

In total, in 54 of them, the outgoing LFI deputy, candidate for re-election under the New Popular Front, comes out on top. His opponent, Alexandre Allegret-Pilot, parachuted by Éric Ciotti and supported by the RN, won 82. Including Alès, where the far right is in the lead in 7 offices out of the 11 affected by the “circo”.

A crumbling massif, and lost plains

For the left-wing candidate, the blow is “hard to take”. As a reminder, he collected 22,228 ballots. 5,374 votes separate him from his opponent. “We thought it was going to be tighter.” The results are reminiscent of those of 2022: Michel Sala retains points in the foothills of the Cévennes and the Viganais country. However, although the left garnered more votes than two years ago, thanks in particular to the mobilization of voters, certain cities showed a clear advance for the RN in their polls.

Anduze, for the first time, even places Alexandre Allegret-Pilot in the lead. The Cévennes Piedmont is, with rare exceptions, conquered by the extreme right. “We lost votes in these citieshe analyzes. There was a mobilization of abstainers, we thought that it would work in our favor. It was not the case. This RN vote, it comes from afar. It reflects here the problem of rurality, of poverty. Of the abandonment of public services in the territory. These are problems that are not resolved and which weigh on people.”

The decisive voices of Daufès-Roux

However, “we pulled ourselves together this Monday morning”he puts things into perspective. “The government finally deigns to call for a barrier to the RN”. Between now and Sunday July 7, the left intends, here, to do everything to convince the voters of Catherine Daufès-Roux. The candidate of the presidential party came third in the first round, with 10,354 votes against her. Enough to supplant Alexandre Allegret-Pilot (27,602 votes).

“Today, it’s calm, it’s solidarity, it’s a republican spirit that we’re looking forthe candidate argues. I think that there is a spirit of resistance in the electorate of Ms. Daufès who also called for a barrier against the RN. “Resist” is also Ms. Boyer’s profession of faith (LR candidate, 5,399 votes, Editor’s note). All these voters must weigh this word carefully next Sunday.”

The voices of the right and the center are also, unsurprisingly, Alexandre Allegret-Pilot’s main target. “The candidate closest to their values is me, without a shadow of a doubt.”he says. As an example of values, the candidate responds by tackling his opponent: “Michel Sala voted against the bill aimed at limiting squats, the bill aimed at developing nuclear power or even to develop renewable energies. There is still a major error in reasoning! Emmanuel’s voters must Macron remains lucid.”

Faced with the attacks made by the RN candidate, who denounces LFI and the NPA as “anti-Semitic”, Michel Sala wishes to recall “that no NFP candidate has been convicted while I can find 40 people in the RN who have been convicted of racism and anti-Semitism.”
