This weekend of June 29 and 30, the Arena Beach hosted the regional beach soccer final, qualifying for National beach soccer. Disappointed on Saturday by gloomy weather, the six competing teams including three Girondines – Football Club bassin d’Arcachon, AS Saint-Aubin-du-Médoc, Saint-Médard-en-Jalles – and three Landaises – Labenne OSC, Union Futsal d Oeyreluy and the Sporting club of Saint-Pierre-du-Mont football – however managed to compete fiercely in their matches, under the watchful eye of Benoît Michelena, beach soccer referent of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Football League. “For the second year in a row, Arena Beach was chosen for the functionality and quality of its facilities, and more particularly the good granularity of its sand, which however undergoes erosion by the wind,” indicates the regional manager. And to quote Éric Cantona: “Beach soccer is not a beach sport, but a sand sport… So what could be better than the sand of an Arena [de Chalosse] ».
Qualifications
The public, mainly made up of players’ families, was able to attend spectacular matches where scissors and bicycles were legion, the goalkeeper playing the essential role of leader for his team’s play. Sunday, under a sun playing hide and seek with the clouds, the teams of Saint-Pierre-du-Mont and Saint-Médard-en-Jalles qualified for the final, at the expense respectively of those of Labenne and FC bassin of Arcachon. In the afternoon, the final was won, with a clear score: 10-0 by the Saint-Médardais, Labenne taking 3e podium place with Oeyreluy.
Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, the only regional club to have a specific section dedicated to beach soccer, will play in the national final in Châteauroux. A special mention to all the SASS foot volunteers for the welcome and the organization of the catering during the two days of competition.
