On Sunday around 10:30 a.m., a police crew went to a building on Avenue de la République in Colmar, called by neighbors because of noise coming from a home. Upon arrival, the police officers attempted to establish contact with a woman who was in the apartment.
The mother hospitalized
The young woman was confused, delirious. A source described her as “in crisis.” The police had difficulty controlling her. It was only once they were able to access the apartment that they made the macabre discovery, the lifeless body of an 8-year-old girl.
They initially took the child’s 31-year-old mother into custody. Her condition was quickly deemed incompatible with this measure. She was subject to a compulsory hospitalization measure.
The cause of the child’s death is not yet known. An autopsy is planned and will take place in the coming days.
Colmar Mayor Eric Straumann expressed his emotion on social media, assuring that the city’s services and those of the National Education system were mobilized to support the classmates of the little girl in CE2 at a school in Colmar.
