A journalist from France 3 Franche-Comté has filed a complaint for death threats against the entourage of a Reconquête candidate during a televised debate in the context of the legislative elections, unions announced on Friday, June 28.

In a joint press release, the CGT, SNJ and Sud journalists’ unions report that the threats were made Wednesday evening at the headquarters of the television channel in Besançon.

Threatened “in front of witnesses”

“I’m going to kill him,” said a “supporter” of a Reconquest candidate about the debate moderator, according to the press release. “She made this death threat in front of witnesses, while she was watching the broadcast of the program in a room at the France 3 Besançon station,” write the unions.

“Shocked but determined, and supported by the editor-in-chief, our colleague filed a complaint for death threats” at the Besançon police station, they specify.

“This death threat is extremely serious”

“We are asking the management of France Télévisions to also file a complaint and to do everything possible to ensure that our colleague is protected. This death threat is extremely serious and infringes on the freedom to inform,” the unions believe.

According to internal sources at France Télévisions, the incident occurred during a debate concerning the first constituency of Haute-Saône, where Philippe Ghiles was a candidate for the far-right party.

The journalist in question did not wish to be identified. Questioned by AFP, Eric Zemmour’s party had not responded early Friday evening.
