LEGISLATIVE LR-RN candidate Alexandre Allegret-Pilot well positioned in the 5th constituency

Coming from the alliance between the National Rally and Éric Ciotti, the former enarque Alexandre Allegret-Pilot is in the lead in the fifth constituency of Gard, facing the outgoing deputy Michel Sala, supported by the New Popular Front.

The largest constituency of Gard, the fifth, includes 139 municipalities in total, including part of Alès. Extending over the west of the department, from Grand’Combe to Vigan, passing through communes such as Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort, Quissac, Anduze, Saint-Jean-du-Gard, Sauve or even as far as in Caveirac, it establishes itself as a strong land of rurality.

The only Gard stronghold of the left in 2022 with the election of the former mayor of Saint-Félix-de-Pallières Michel Sala (LFI) against Jean-Marie Launay (RN), the early legislative elections of 2024 announced a new clash between these two sides.

Indeed, the outgoing candidate, nominated by the New Popular Front, is again in the second round but not in the same position as two years ago. With 33.03%, Insoumis comes in second place behind the representative of the LR-RN alliance Alexandre Allegret-Pilot and his 41.02%.

“I think people have confirmed the message they already sent in the European elections, a confirmation that remains to be affirmed in the second round”declared the LR-RN candidate to our microphone. “The campaign is extremely short, we will need all the good will and good souls to disseminate our program and our profile”he adds. Leaflets, box-posting, public meetings, his objective is clear: to swing the constituency to the right.

Left-wing municipalities shaken up

In several left-leaning towns, Alexandre Allegret-Pilot came close to or overtook Michel Sala, who was playing at home. In Cendras, he reached 36.3% (43.54 for the rebellious candidate), in Domessargues he exceeded 51% (33.11% for Michel Sala). On the other hand, in La Grand’Combe, Le Vigan or Saint-Félix-de-Pallières, the score is clear: advantage to the outgoing MP.

The right-wing candidate, on the other hand, was very popular in other municipalities in the constituency such as Bagard, Boisset-et-Gaujac, Bessèges or Saint-Christol-lès-Alès, where he flirted with the 50% mark for some. On the Alesian part, the results of which were announced by the Alesian elected official Martine Magne, he exceeds the outgoing deputy by a few percent: 38.32% against 33.80%.

Other candidates come behind, the former MP invested by Renassance-Ensemble Catherine Daufès-Roux (15.39%), the LR candidate Léa Boyer (8.02%), Agnès Olinet for Lutte Ouvrière (1.43%) and Nordine Tria (1.12%). The latter has also called for “block the road to the RN and vote massively for the left front in the fifth constituency of Gard”in a post on his Facebook account.
