UBB Sevens: winner of the Delamon Sevens! – News – Union Bordeaux Bègles (UBB Rugby)

With 22 points in its pocket and provisionally positioned in 4th place in the general ranking of the Elite circuit after two tournaments, the UBB Sevens traveled this weekend to Berre l’Étang for the Delamon Sevens, the 3rd tournament of the competition, also marking the team’s 30th tournament since its inception.

First day

Malo Hannoyer opened the Mediterranean ball by scoring against the Minot Development. Despite the three yellow cards received, our Bordelais won 22 to 7.

The second match, against the team of France Militarywas announced to be more difficult. With a score of 14 to 7 in favor of the Bordeaux team at half-time, France Militaire managed to equalize at 14-14. It was only in the last minute of play that UBB Sevens won the game 21-14 thanks to a try from Lucas Toulouze on his own kick.

The third and final group match pitted UBB Sevens against SCA Sevensa team they have already met several times. At half-time, the score was 12 everywheremaking the second period decisive for both teams. Our sevens team finally took the lead, and tries from Antoine Poussin and Gabriel Bouscasse sealed the victory and qualification for the quarter-finals. Nice match : 22-12.

Second day

At the top of their group, the UBB Sevens faced the Basques ofEuskadi Sevens. After a start to the match where both teams were fumbling, Benjamin Gagnac made a breakthrough to score the first points of the match. With a score of 14-0 at half-time, our Girondins maintained their lead and qualified directly for the semi-finals against the Seventisewith a score final de 21-5.

This semi-final was crucial for both teams: it could propel the Seventise to the top of the championship, thus eliminating any hope of a title for the UBB Sevens, or allow our Seventists to remain in contention for the title the following week. Aware of the stakes, our players mastered the game perfectly and qualified for the final. Nice match : 26-7.

In a final breathtaking match they faced the formidable 7 Fantastics. Our Girondins led 10-7 at half-time, but the 7 Fantastics scored a converted try, regaining the lead with a score of 12-10. The minutes ticked by, bringing the end of the match closer. But in a decisive burst, our sevens created the gap, and Arthur Martin scored the winning try a few seconds after the siren (15-12). This victory thus relaunched the race for the title of French champion!

Crowned winner of the Delamon Sevens, the UBB Sevens moved up in the general ranking of the Elite circuit, placing itself at 2nd place with 40 points, tied with the Seventise and 3 points behind the Fantastic 7. The title will be decided next week in Mèze during the Med Sevens, the last tournament of the Elite circuit.
