In 1999, the United Nations chose to proclaim November 25 as the international day for the elimination of violence against women.
On the occasion of November 25, 2024, the international day to combat violence against women, a new interministerial communication sequence is launched to continue the fight against gender-based and sexual violence.
Within this integrated system, the Government is launching a campaign with the aim of raise awareness among women and men about sexist and sexual outrages, which are still poorly identified and yet remain a reality.
In fact, there are still so many women who declare that they have already personally experienced a sexist situation.82% have already had the feeling of having been treated less well because of their gender and most often through situations called “ ordinary sexism » (joke, remark on physique, etc.).
➡️ The challenge of this campaign is therefore to define and share the limits and prohibitions to raise awareness.
“Are you on your period or something?” » – No, it’s not “just” a joke
The campaign highlights this sexist and sexual violence which is too often minimized. Indeed, what can still be defined by some as an unpleasant remark, a misplaced compliment or an insistent flirtation actually hides a sexist and sexual outrage, punishable by law.
By staging everyday life situations, at work, in the street or at homethe campaign illustrates the violence of these “little sentences” and reminds us that sexist and sexual outrage is a form of violence against women and that it is punishable by a fine of up to 3,750 euros (in the event of aggravated sexist and sexual contempt).
As part of the international day for the elimination of violence against women, Simon Bertoux, prefect of Ariège will meet the gendarmerie unit of the Family Protection House in Pamiers.
Launched in 2022 by the Ariège departmental gendarmerie group, the unit provides support and monitoring for victims and co-victims of domestic violence (including youth, people with disabilities, seniors).
