The collision occurred around 11:45 p.m. Sunday evening on Highway 30, eastbound.

“According to initial information, a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction in the west direction, in the east bay, collided with another vehicle with three people on board,” explained Sergeant Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, who is the porter. word for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The man who was driving the vehicle that was going the wrong way was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He was the only person on board.

The three occupants of the other vehicle also had to be hospitalized. A woman in her 90s was still in critical condition Monday morning, while the other two injured suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

This accident forced the closure of Highway 30 eastbound for a good part of the night, as officers from the SQ and the Richelieu–Saint-Laurent intermunicipal police force went to the scene.

A police officer trained in collision investigations carried out an analysis of the scene. The reason why the driver of the first vehicle ended up in the opposite direction will still be the subject of an investigation, but the SQ could confirm Monday morning that there was no criminal element in this case.
