Bergerac: a homeless man tried for a series of thefts
38-year-old homeless man remanded in custody
A 38-year-old homeless man will be tried immediately this Monday, July 1 before the Bergerac criminal court for 18 counts of simple or aggravated theft. Wanted by the police for the attack on an old lady whose bag he stole in the street last week, the suspect was arrested Friday evening after committing another theft.
Interpellation and revelations
While in police custody at the Bergerac police station, this Tunisian national, under an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF), admitted 16 other acts of theft committed in June in Bergerac. These thefts mainly targeted elderly people, whether at home or on public roads.
Motivation
In front of the investigators, the suspect tried to justify his actions by his addiction to narcotics. This situation of precariousness and dependence would have motivated his series of crimes.
Judiciary process
Referred to the Bergerac public prosecutor’s office, the man was placed in pre-trial detention while awaiting his trial for immediate appearance before the Périgueux criminal court. This procedure aims to quickly judge the perpetrators of flagrant crimes.
