2024 Legislative Elections. In an unfavorable position, the outgoing MP (Ensemble) Monique Iborra throws in the towel

This is probably the end of a long political adventure for Monique Iborrathe outgoing MP (Renaissance), candidate for succession in the 2024 Legislative elections in the 6th constituency from Haute-Garonne, which covers the towns west of Toulouse (Colomiers, Tournefeuille, Léguevin, and Plaisance-du-Touch).

“In any case, the outcome would not be favorable to me,” says Monique Iborra.

The chosen one announces it after having obviously thought for a long time: Monique Iborra puts away (permanently?) the crampons and withdraws from the race. And this despite the fact that the now ex-MP garnered “a score close to 30%, equivalent to that of the first round of the legislative election in 2022” (30.27% at the time, Editor’s note) which “would allow me to stay in power on July 7.”

“I decided to withdraw because in any case, the outcome would not be favorable to me, the difference in votes was too great.”

Monique Iborra came 3rd in the 1st round

This figure of Macronie, which was at 79 ans the dean of the deputies of Haute-Garonne, had left to campaign in this 6th constituency, where she finally arrived only in third positionSunday June 30, 2024, although the scores are relatively close for the leading trio.

Collecting 29,60 % votes, Monique Iborra is slightly ahead of the RN candidate Nadine Demange-Fierlej (30.92%) and especially by the socialist candidate, invested by the New Popular Front, Arnaud Simion (34,03 %).

Down with “extremes and compromises”, no voting instructions for the second round

The elected official, who maintains a notorious enmity with her former comrades from the PS, does not, however, call for voting for the candidate of the “New popular front assumed and declared with conviction”, and indicates “to let the voters who trusted me, and whom I sincerely thank, to decide for themselves of their vote.”

Concerning myself, I have always fought extremes and compromises wherever they come from. I will therefore not give voting instructions.

A triangular would have been relatively indecisive

If the three-way race decided by voters in the first round had been confirmed, the outcome would have been quite indecisivethe three political blocs gravitating around 30%, especially since the RN could have benefited from a transfer of votes from Reconquête (1.29%), and that a dissident ecologist Sandra Laporte collected 3.25% of the votes.

Member of Parliament for 17 years

First Vice-President of Martin Malvy at the Midi-Pyrénées Regional Council from 2004 to 2010, Monique Iborra was elected to the Assembly in this 6th constituency in 2007 against Françoise de Veyrinas (UMP) with 55.10% of the vote, before being re-elected by voters in 2012, 2017 and 2022… Twice under the PS label, before joining En Marche in 2017, after son exclusion (for having supported Philippe Saurel in the regional elections in the new region, and not the party candidate, Carole Delga, Editor’s note).

Already in 2022, Monique Iborra had been saved from the waters, being re-elected for a 4th term, thanks to a lead of… three small votes (50.00%) over the Nupes candidate, Fabien Jouvé. The small difference had also led the deputy (PS) to the mayor of Colomiers to bring an appeal, which ended in a dismissal of the case, due to the sudden death of the applicant.

Formerly midwifeMP Iborra was involved in the Assembly on many issues often related to employment, professional training, health and dependency. At the Palais Bourbon, she was a pillar of the Social Affairs Committee.
