A device of self-service bike with some virtual stations will be tested at country of Alençon. Similar to what is done in large cities, users will be able to rent a bicycle, to borrow and drop off only in defined areas, via a application mobile.

Virtual stations in the Alençon region

The City of Alençon will make available 25 bikes of its “À Vélo” service for this new service. Several strategic locations have been listed to host one of the virtual stations: the Perrier field, the train station, the Écouves activity center and several voluntary municipalities in the inner ring (Arçonnay, Cerise, Condé-sur-Sarthe, Damigny , Saint-Germain-du-Corbéis, Saint-Paterne-Le Chevain, Valframbert).

This community approach aims to facilitate access to a soft transport solution. As a reminder, a target of 12% modal share of bicycles has been set at the national level for 2030.

A previous self-service electric-assisted bicycle experiment, with only two stations, was carried out for one year, from summer 2022 to summer 2023. This time, the test will be calibrated on two yearsuntil 2026. A review will be carried out six months before the end to decide on a possible renewal.

250 information panels

Multimodal signposts will be deployed in the CUA territory. They will direct to a destination via a developed or secured route and will indicate the travel time on foot and by bike.
Objective: to inform tourists and new residents. But also to raise awareness among motorists, “who overestimate the loss of time linked to the use of active modes”, indicates elected official Sylvain Launay. With the idea of converting more people to soft transport.
The community plans to install 250 panels spread across 50 CUA sites, most of them in the inner suburbs. Amount: €20,000. It is also planned to add marking of secure routes to the main activity zones using colored dots on existing street furniture.
