Stan Wawrinka will be the only Swiss in contention on Monday during the three shots at Wimbledon. As usual, it is the men’s title holder, Carlos Alcaraz, who will open the fire on Center Court.
Beaten in the 2nd round at Roland-Garros, Stan Wawrinka (ATP 93) did not play a preparation tournament. The Vaudois is therefore necessarily wary of his opponent in the 1st round, the British guest Charles Broom (ATP 245), accustomed to playing on grass. Their duel is scheduled in the second rotation on court no. 2 (around 2:30 p.m. in Switzerland).
This first day will be marked by the debut of the holder of the trophy and winner of the last Roland-Garros Carlos Alcaraz, who will face an unknown at 1:30 p.m. London time: he will come up against the Estonian Mark Lajal, 262nd in the world and from the qualifications in this third round of the Grand Slam.
Two other Swiss representatives
The Spaniard’s designated opponent at the semi-final stage, the other big favorite at the top of the table Jannik Sinner will enter the fray at the end of the afternoon on court no. 1. If he beats Yannick Hanfmann, a hell of a challenge could await the world No. 1 in the 2nd round: he could find the 2021 finalist Matteo Berrettini.
The other two Swiss Tennis representatives involved in singles, Dominic Stricker (ATP 151) and the quarter-finalist of the 2021 edition Viktorija Golubic (WTA 69), will play on Tuesday, as will Novak Djokovic in particular. The Bernese will face the Frenchman Arthur Fils (ATP 34), the Zurich native will face the German Jule Niemeier (WTA 96).
