The sound of a hammer on a steel plate, the smell of molten metal… Boilermaking still has a future. And it also helps to rekindle the flame among the oldest. For the fiftieth anniversary of the Joseph-Imbert hospital center, an intergenerational project was led by Karim Oukarti (boilermaking teacher at the Charles-Privat high school), Priscillia Blaquière and Sandrine Blanc (employees at the Ehpad du Lac). Six residents and six students from the “Fleur du ghetto” class joined forces to make a metal plaque installed in the hall of the establishment. In total, it took four sessions of 4 to 5 hours. This project really pleased me and interested me, it makes me a little younger, rejoices Guy, 94, a watchmaker in Arles from the age of 14 to 61. We visited their establishment, saw huge machines for apprentices. The students were very kind to us, the elderly, which is rare these days. All these young people deserve to succeed in life.

A kindness unanimously shared by the other residents and the team of the retirement home. The students were talking, laughing with them, holding their hands. It was very moving. And above all, at the workshop, we saw men and not residents.“, insists Priscillia, facilitator for 4 years. Other projects to come A magnificent synergy between generations. The creation of this metal plaque will not be the only project carried out between the students and the hospital. “L“Next year, it will be a metallic rose for a resident,” continues the latter. “We will also make and offer a walker using recycled materials“, adds Karim Oukarti. To the great delight of the residents. A
