GOLF. Building on the success of last year’s event, the Robert Lavoie Open will return to the Coaticook Golf Club this Friday (July 5).

“The table is set for this second edition,” says Christian Lavoie, one of the organizers of the meeting. We only had good words during the first edition. It was beyond our expectations. Last year, we raised $13,500, which we then donated to Parkinson Québec. »

The organization that received the golfers’ generosity is no accident. Mr. Lavoie’s father, Robert, suffers from Parkinson’s disease. “It took me a while to convince him to associate his name with the tournament,” he confides. “Having a disease is not something to be proud of in itself, but you can be proud of the way you deal with it. I also want people to see that one of the remedies he has adopted is to continue practicing some of his favorite activities, like golf.”

This year, 26 foursomes have confirmed their presence at the Robert Lavoie Open. The format of the first edition has been retained, which means that golfers will be welcomed at a dinner, where smoked meat from the Salaison Provencher company will be served. They will then tee off on the fairways for 14 holes. The evening will end with a cocktail reception.

We will remember that last year, Robert Lavoie managed to score a hole-in-one at his own event. “It was quite an achievement,” remembers his son. So we bring back the vibrating plate, which simulates tremors and the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. We will install it on the 18th hole and people will take part in the Robert Lavoie Challenge, which will consist of making a hole in one while being destabilized by this equipment. »

It is still possible to register for the Robert Lavoie Open or to make a donation to Parkinson Québec by writing to [email protected]. The registration fee includes a BBQ, golf with a cart, a cocktail dinner, a donation to the organization and several gifts and surprises.
