The day after the first round of the 2024 legislative elections, candidates qualified for the second round on Sunday will have until 6 p.m. this Tuesday, July 2 to validate their candidacy at the prefecture. After the vote, the date of July 18 will also be fundamental politically in more than one way.

An ultra-busy political calendar at the start of July. This Monday marks the start of an intense week between the two rounds on the political level, the day after the first round of the legislative elections. Here are the 5 key dates which will punctuate the coming days of the candidates and political parties engaged in the democratic battle.

Tuesday July 2nd

Candidates qualified for the second round of the legislative elections have until 6 p.m. this Tuesday to submit their candidacy to the prefecture for this weekend’s vote.

In the case of triangulars with a marked advantage for the National Rally, certain candidates who came in third position this Sunday could choose to withdraw from the race to block the RN.

Wednesday July 3

Electronic voting for the election of deputies for French people living outside France opens this Wednesday at 12 noon and may extend until Thursday at 6 p.m., according to the decree calling for the elections.

Saturday July 6th

From 12:01 a.m. this Saturday, the electoral campaign ends, thus putting an end to the distribution of leaflets and electoral meetings.

Sunday July 7

The second round of the legislative elections will be the attraction of the day, with polling stations open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with an extension until 8 p.m. for the major cities.

Note that the second round will begin on Saturday in the overseas departments or regions.

Thursday July 18

July 18 is an important date for more than one reason. The composition of the political groups, as well as the election of the presidency of the Assembly and the bureau, must take place on that day. New deputies will be able to submit a motion of censure from that date if they wish.

Candidates and political parties also have until 6 p.m. today to file a legal appeal to contest the result in a constituency. In the event of victory in the first round, the appeal deadline is set for 6 p.m. on July 11.
