Having been in difficulty since the start of this 111e edition of the Tour de France, the sprinters will finally take a breather and potentially compete for stage victory. Between Piacenza and Turin, stopover city for the 7e time in its history, the runners are still crisscrossing Italy, before reaching the French Alps, Tuesday July 2.
Over the approximately 230 kilometers of racing, sprinters are expected from the intermediate sprint located 94 kilometers into the race, where 20 points will be awarded to the fastest. Subsequently, the two coasts listed in category 4 – Barbaresco coast (1.5 km at 6.5%) and Sommariva Perno coast (2.4 km at 5%) – should not create any major surprises.
The arrival in Turin should allow us to see more clearly in the hierarchy of sprinters entered in this Tour de France. During the stage, a tribute to Fausto Coppi, originally from Piedmont and multiple grand tour winner, will be paid. At the top of the coast of Tortona, the town where he died and located at the start of the stage, a symbolic point is awarded to the mountain classification.
