The Salève had the funny idea of growing in France. Never mind, in a very un-Grand Genève spirit, the Genevans have always considered it to be their mountain. This statement will make the Valaisans laugh for obvious reasons, and the French grind their teeth. The latter have recently invested a lot of resources and care in renovating the cable car that leads to the summit of the Salève, at 1097 meters high, where stands the upper station built by Maurice Braillard in 1932, one of the architects whose name has crossed the borders of the canton of Geneva. After extensive work, the monument is once again open to the public. Guided tour with Claudia and David Devaux, the Parisian architects who rehabilitated the place. The former is a specialist in 20th century heritage, particularly Bauhaus. The latter is involved in the transformation of historic monuments such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

At the cable car arrival point, a room with a triple function – shop, exhibition, refreshment bar – has been created, with a huge bay window overlooking Lake Geneva. — © Manuel Bougot
