This Monday, July 1, the third and final evening of the Documentary Meetings, during the Festival de la Cité, will screen the documentary “Françoise Hardy, an icon” in the Cour d’Honneur of the Château Comtal, in the presence of its director Mireille Dumas, whom we met. With the recent death of the singer, this event takes on a very special meaning.

This Monday 1is July, as part of the third evening of the Documentary Meetings, will be screened Françoise Hardy, an icondirected by Mireille Dumas, in the Cour d’honneur of the Château Comtal, at 10 p.m. The latter will be present for the occasion, alongside the actor Jean-Claude Dreyfus. This meeting, set for several weeks, has taken on a special dimension since June 11, and a post on social networks by her son Thomas Dutronc. In description, a serious sentence: “Mom is gone”. Françoise Hardy had just passed away, overcome by illness, after more than 20 years of battle.

Mireille Dumas, a journalist working for France 2, France 3 or RTL, bases her documentary on numerous testimonies collected over the years, and a wealth of archives. Jean-Marie Périer, who shared the singer’s life for four years, but also David Bowie who confides that he was in love with her, and Jacques Dutronc, the man of her life by his own admission, do not stop talking about praise for Françoise Hardy. Enough to bring us to meet him in the greatest intimacy. In this journey through time organized chronologically, starting from yéyé to the present era, the author of All the boys and girls delivers with gentleness and sincerity. With all the grace that characterizes her, the documentary reviews the life of this icon, through her most beautiful songs.

She took a lot of distance from herself

Coming to Carcassonne for the three days of these Documentary Meetings, where she is also presenting this Saturday, July 29 Brigitte Bardot, the rebelMireille Dumas returned to the genesis of Françoise Hardy, an icona work whose content actually spans more than thirty years. “I met Françoise Hardy several times throughout my career, from 1985 to 2018she explains. I really wanted to link these successive exchanges”. A work praised by Françoise Hardy herself, of which Mireille Dumas retains the “unimaginable frankness”but also a humor that the general public did not necessarily suspect. “She took a lot of distance from herself”she assures.

Mireille Dumas’ next production, “Paris en chanson”, will be broadcast on Friday July 5 on France 3.

With the recent disappearance of this “icon”, this documentary, the programming of which had been planned for a long time, of course takes on a completely different scope. It is no coincidence that France 2 chose to rebroadcast it following the singer’s death. “It’s now a tribute”sums up Mireille Dumas, whose achievements are as many precious testimonies of people, famous or anonymous, who continue to perpetuate their memory once they have gone. A sort of vocation that the one who started out as a journalist has always nourished. “Even when I was little, I wanted to reach out to others. I always found that the lives of others were extraordinary: I wanted to experience lots of other lives!” Always without embellishment, in an authentic way.

In this case, we will discover this Monday 1is July who was really Françoise Hardy, far from the sometimes distorting prism of showbiz and the media. This evening, in the heart of the City of Carcassonne should certainly be a beautiful way to say goodbye to her.
