This Friday, November 22, the general counsel of the Cayenne Juvenile Assize Court requested 25 years of criminal imprisonment against the accused.
This 19-year-old young man was 17 at the time of the incident. He is on trial for the assassination of his childhood friend, Benaya Mangal, in Mana, in 2022. The attorney general asked that the minority excuse not be accepted.
This indictment satisfies the civil party, who had some fears this morning.
Two suspensions of hearing took place during the requisitions of the general advocate. The accused vomited several times in his cubicle, where a bucket had to be installed. The civil party feared for a moment that this suspension would last. The verdict cannot be rendered in the absence of the accused.
Already tested by the first two days of the trial, the family of Benaya Mangal, “waiting for the verdict and would like to end this day”. The defense argument has just begun.
Yesterday, Benaya Mangal's parents spoke for the first time since the trial began. They believe they have had answers to too many questions they have asked themselves for two years about the death of their son. According to them, there was indeed premeditation, because of “a crush”. The accused was “madly in love” with a young girl and believed that Benaya behaved indelicately towards her. He would then have taken action.
At the end of the day yesterday, the Mangal family's lawyer argued in this direction. “There is no doubt about premeditation in this matter,” assures Master Boris Chong-Sit. Benaya's parents hope that “The accused will get the punishment he deserves.”
The verdict is expected at midday.
