The budgetary orientation debate of the Indre departmental council is traditionally followed by the intervention of the prefect, who comes to defend the action of the State. Thibault Lanxade therefore spoke to the elected officials of Indre, Friday November 22, 2024, in Châteauroux.

Asked about the agricultural crisis, the prefect did not hide his concern and even affirmed that reflection was underway with, in the background, “a subject of consolidation and concentration of plots”. According to him, “around sixty farmers” in the department, out of the 3,700 farms recorded, are today in an alarming situation. “They have lost their capacity to produce” due to several factors, “economic, cyclical, structural”.

The “classic” model in question

For Thibault Lanxade, “the classic model of a crop-livestock farm, of 100 to 150 ha, with around a hundred animals, has become very complicated”. The state representative announced the upcoming launch of a “unprecedented program” in Indre, for the farmers concerned. “Diagnostics financed by the State which should lead them to make the right decisions: evolve or stop. »

A speech which would have been appreciated very differently in the assembly, particularly among the most rural elected officials.
