A 20-year-old man suspected of being the perpetrator of gunshots which left one dead and another seriously injured during a brawl on Sunday in Rumilly (Haute-Savoie), was indicted and imprisoned on Friday, announced the Annecy public prosecutor's office.
The young man, who “presented himself voluntarily” Thursday afternoon at a Lyon police station where he “was immediately notified of the arrest warrant issued against him”was indicted “for murder and attempted murder” before being placed in pre-trial detention, it is specified in a press release. “He admitted to being the author of the shots, explaining that he had fired while he was hit on the ground, to escape the fight. Fight between people from the town
Furthermore, two people who accompanied the accused on the day of the incident “spontaneously” presented to investigators on Monday and Tuesday before being placed in police custody. “They admitted to having been present at the scene of the events but indicated that they were not aware of the presence of a firearm”explains the prosecution, specifying that these people, as well as witnesses, designated the main suspect as the shooter. Sunday, around 4:30 p.m., several individuals arrived at a square in the center of Rumilly aboard a utility van, coming from Annecy, around twenty kilometers away. A fight quickly broke out with a group of nine people from the town. In the confusion, one of the young people from Annecy, who fell to the ground and was hit by the locals, took out a handgun and fired at least twice, according to the prosecution.
A young man from Rumilly born in 2005, hit in the chest, died on the spot. A second, born in 2004, was transported to Annecy hospital in absolute emergency after being hit in the head. The individuals from Annecy fled on foot, according to the same source.
