This is a key date in the history of the Jardins du Puygirault de Saumur (Maine-et-Loire). This Friday, June 28, 2024, the site unveiled a plaque formalizing their labeling as a “Remarkable Garden”. A national recognition from the Ministry of Culture, which highlights, among other things, all the richness and diversity of these gardens located on the banks of the Loire on the road to Gennes.

A drastic specification

In order to obtain this prestigious distinction, which only five gardens in Maine-et-Loire and around 400 in France have, those responsible for the Jardins du Puygirault had to first convince a working group chaired by the regional prefect or his representative , we can read on the ministry’s website. In total, no less than twelve methods of awarding the “Remarkable Garden” label must be checked so that the file can land on the jury’s table.

Opened in 2018 and located in the heart of a former market gardening site from the Middle Ages, the Jardins du Puygirault launched their 2024 season on March 30. And gardening enthusiasts looking for innovative ideas and practices are increasingly numerous year after year to wander through the paths of the site. As a reminder, this green place extends over two hectares and has nearly a thousand plants from all over the world. These are visible through an educational walk offered in the heart of fourteen thematic gardens.
