There was a lot of talk about budget and outlook during the general assembly of the Indre Chamber of Commerce and Industry which was held on Thursday November 21, 2024 at its Castelroussin headquarters. The 2025 finance bill and its consequences fueled the debates.
The prefect, Thibault Lanxade, after answering questions from entrepreneurs, warned the assembly of the inevitable demographic shock which will shake the department over the next decade. “Over the next seven years, Indre will lose 11,000 inhabitants, the equivalent of the town of Issoudun. By 2035, Indre will fall below 200,000 inhabitants. It's mathematical. You have to prepare for it. »
The prefect has a speech and a method. “To decide is to give up. We must focus our efforts on what can be most profitable in terms of economic development. This is about preparing a rebound for the department. Reversing this demographic trend will require incentive measures. Today, we are in a race against time over future corporate failures. »
“One moment, when you have to go, you have to go”
Jacky Thoonsen also depicts this picture in chiaroscuro. “We must be aware of this unpleasant trend. We lose 1,000 inhabitants every year. It's a bit as if my village of Cluis, which I care so much about, disappeared every year. We must mobilize, this is why we are putting all the effort into training. Let's train our kids so they can stay with us! »
The president of the CCI goes further. “There are ways to bring people in. But you have to pay the price. Make an effort on land with a ridiculous price or even give it away. A moment, when you have to go, you have to go! »
