In total, 80,000 bicycles passed through the cycle path on Boulevard Sébastopole this week, compared to 62,000 cars.

Those who ride their bikes every day know it: Boulevard Sébastopole is full of cyclists. And the figures put forward by the Paris City Hall this Friday, June 28 on the social network X clearly demonstrate it: there were more bikes than cars on the main thoroughfare during the week of June 24.

“It has already been 4 days since there have been more bicycles than cars on Sébastopol Boulevard! Fewer cars means less pollution,” the municipality boasted.

Between 21 and 23,000 bicycles per day

On the graph created by the city hall, the figures are eloquent. This Monday, June 24, 21,000 bicycles passed through the immense cycle path of the Boulevard Sébastopol, compared to 14,000 cars.

For the three days that followed, namely Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 23,000 bicycles circulated. For comparison, 14,000 cars drove on the boulevard on Tuesday, and 17,000 on Wednesday and Thursday.

On June 7, 2023, the symbolic milestone of 2 million bicycle crossings was reached on the boulevard’s cycle path, which was and remains the most used in the capital.

In its publication, the Paris town hall was also pleased that “since 2011, pollution has fallen by 40%”.
