The Drôme-Ardèche Food Bank is launching its major annual collection in supermarkets, and it is no longer enough

The Food Bank needs you this weekend in Drôme Ardèche. Around 2,200 volunteers will take turns in around a hundred supermarkets to wait for you at the checkout counters. They are waiting for donations of food and hygiene products. This is their big annual collection. Last fall, they collected 154 tons of donations. They hope to do better again this year, “even if given the conjecture, it may be difficult” concedes Jean-Marc Poux, the president of the association. “People have less money” he continues, “and they give, but they also get tired because every month there is an association that collects in supermarkets.”

Soon two collections per year?

The Food Bank helps 18,000 beneficiaries in Drôme Ardèche. A constantly increasing figure, and Jean-Marc Poux wonders if it will not be necessary to do a second collection in the spring: “because now, we are unable to combine the two collections from one year to the next. This year, we had to buy pasta, rice, flour. We also collect less on a daily basis, during morning collections in supermarkets, because they are doing 50% off operations on their products which are expiring soon, and these are all products that we no longer collect.”
