► Ille-et-Vilaine:

  • lifting of the storage area of ​​the Fougères bar. ► In the departments of the Western defense and security zone

This morning, 17 of the 20 departments in the Western defense and security zone were concerned by vigilance: snow and ice for 11 of them and winds for 6 of them.

  • orange snow-ice vigilance for the departments: (14), Eure (27), Eure et Loir (28) Loir-et-Cher (41), (45), Manche (50), Mayenne (53), Orne (61), (72), Seine-Maritime (76)
  • extension of yellow snow ice vigilance for other departments
  • orange vigilance violent winds for the departments: Finistère (29), Indre (36), Maine et (49), Morbihan (56), Loire-Atlantique (44), Vendée (85)
  • return to yellow vigilance for three departments Finistère (29), Ille-et-Vilaine (35) and Côte d’Armor (22)

Given the traffic difficulties, 6 heavy goods vehicle storage areas were activated this morning in order to maintain smooth traffic for road users. A few accidents have been reported with minor incidence and without significant bodily consequences.

Weather situation

The Caetano depression is currently crossing the area from west to east and generating snowfall on an axis going from North / Normandy to the Grand-Est. The exact trajectory of the Caetano depression, circulating from Brittany towards northern Italy, fluctuated slightly, causing a slight readjustment of the departments concerned by the orange vigilance for the “Snow/ice” parameters in the northern part of the depression and “Wind” in the southern part of the depression.

Applicable measures

In order to ensure the safety of users on the roads, the prefect of the Western defense and security zone has taken, by order, new traffic restriction measures for vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes. authorized load (PTAC) assigned to the transport of goods.
The main developments are as follows:

  • To take into account the strong winds in departments 29, 56, 44 and 85, the speed is lowered and an overtaking ban is imposed.

► Traffic bans and the storage of heavy goods vehicles are, however, lifted in the Breton departments in view of the improvement in the situation in these departments.

During the night of Wednesday 20 to Thursday 21 November 2024, the departments on orange snow-ice alert should have temperatures around 0 degrees. The expected quantities of snow are of the order of 5 to 10 cm of damp to wet snow on the Breton reliefs. Elsewhere, the expected quantities are of the order of 1 to 5 cm elsewhere.

► In the departments of the Western defense and security zone

The West Zone Bad Weather Plan (PIZO) was activated in the departments concerned by Amaury de SAINT-QUENTIN, prefect of Brittany, prefect of the West defense and security zone, prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine.

These same restrictions will be applied from 11 a.m., Thursday November 21, for the departments Cher (18), Eure (27), Eure-et-Loire (28), Loir-et-Cher (41) and Loiret (45).

As of 6 a.m., Thursday, November 21, 2024, sections of the national road network are subject to traffic bans and storage obligations for vehicles and combinations of vehicles whose total authorized weight (GVW) is greater than 7.5 tonnes, on the following axes: N12, N164, N176, A84, N174, A11, N154, A28 (locations and storage areas specified in the zonal decree)

These traffic restriction measures are not applicable to:

  • emergency vehicles and equipment,
  • intervention vehicles and equipment (road managers' operating equipment, transport of snow salt and road melting agents, electricity and gas network managers' equipment).

The speed of vehicles authorized to circulate is limited to 70 km/h without prejudice to more restrictive speed limits.

► In Ille-et-Vilaine

With regard specifically to Ille-et-Vilaine, the prefect has taken, by decree, two measures applicable in the department by extending the zonal road traffic restrictions to the Bretillian secondary network as of this Thursday, November 21 at 6 a.m.

  • overtaking ban

These measures are in force on all roads in the Ille-et-Vilaine department (national roads, motorways and secondary network).
