In the wake of a study carried out under the aegis of the Community of Communes of the Great Lakes, Ychoussois elected officials wanted to have a reference plan to define a coherent project for the structuring and development of the village center. The objective is to promote harmonious and sustainable development, which preserves the rural identity of Ychoux, while highlighting its village center and guaranteeing the vitality of its local shops, supports of local life.

The challenge, in terms of town planning, is to ensure continuity between points that have until now been poorly connected: from industrial and economic activity zones to the Etang des Forges, via the station sector, as well as that of the town hall or the sports area.

Other concerns are also integrated, such as encouraging the diversity of types of housing and thus residential trajectories, or greening the village and highlighting existing natural spaces.

A participatory approach

The development of this reference plan was carried out using a participatory approach, followed by a steering committee, in order to involve the population and socio-economic stakeholders. The consultation phase began with an urban walk in October 2023, followed by workshops and a public presentation meeting at the end of September. The reference plan is also that of the actions to be carried out in the next ten or fifteen years.

The development and programming guidelines within the local urban plan allow the creation of 210 housing units which will follow the desire for residential diversification. The development of public spaces and the enhancement of what already exists, such as securing modes of travel, are at the heart of the document and there is no shortage of projects: around the station, the nursery school, the media library, the town hall, the church square, the bowling alley to be moved, the development of Place Maurice-Boyau, the redevelopment project for the Grands-Champs road, that of Vieux-Bourg, and even the road to Eeyore.
