Switzerland will do its part to achieve the objective of global warming limited to 1.5 degrees, affirmed Minister of the Environment Albert Rösti during COP29 in Baku. A national action plan will be presented on February 10.
“This plan for the period 2030-2035 will be consistent with the planetary objective of 1.5 degrees,” the federal councilor said on Thursday.
The Confederation, also very affected by global warming, expects decisive measures from the world’s main economies in the fight against climate change, added Mr. Rösti on SRF radio. “And Switzerland is ready to take its responsibilities.”
The international community set the objective of warming limited to 1.5 degrees during the Paris Agreements in 2015. Switzerland ratified them two years later.
In the national action plan for the period 2025-2030, the Confederation has committed to reducing its CO2 emissions by half compared to 1990.
