The Parisian Cognacq-Jay museum (3rd arrondissement) announced that it had been the victim of a burglary this Wednesday morning.
A theft whose damage has not yet been estimated. Four people stole five boxes and collector's snuff boxes this Wednesday, November 20, around 10:30 a.m., from the Cognacq-Jay museum (3rd arrondissement).
The criminals broke the window which protected the objects with blows of axes and baseball bats, AFP said, citing a source close to the case. Still according to this same source, the objects had been loaned as part of the “Luxe in Pocket” exhibition, which was supposed to last until Sunday November 24.
A psychological unit set up
If fortunately no injuries were noted among the visitors, a “psychological and listening unit for the agents present who demonstrated great professionalism and an exemplary attitude in the face of this situation”, wrote the Paris town hall in a press release. It is also accessible to “visitors present at the time of the events”.
For its part, the Paris public prosecutor's office confirmed that it had “seized the brigade for the repression of banditry (BRB) with an investigation into armed robbery by an organized gang”.
For the moment, the amount of the damage has not yet been estimated.
