2024 legislative elections: the issues in the 5th constituency of Vaucluse

More than 100 kilometers from one end to the other of this 5th district of Vaucluse. It extends from Sarrians to Beaumont-de-Pertuis via part of Carpentras, Sault, Apt, the east of the Luberon and Pertuis. Created in 2012, it is the the only constituency in the department which has not elected an RN deputy. The outgoing deputy, Jean François Lovisolo, ex-socialist turned Renaissance, is not running for re-election.

· For these early legislative elections, five candidates are in the running in this 5th constituency:

  • Catherine Rimbert (RN)
  • Céline Celce (New Popular Front)
  • Adrien Morenas (Ensemble)
  • Alexandre Deshaies (Reconquest)
  • Martin Lefevre (LR)

Voter expectations

Voters’ expectations vary depending on where they vote in this constituency, between urban areas, scrubland, vineyards and orchards. In Carpentras, the feeling of insecurity and drug trafficking often come up in discussions. In more rural areas, Voters are sometimes disillusioned by politics. The farmers who were on the dams this winter have the impression that the government, Paris or Brussels have still not heard them. So there is this desire to end it all “the right and the left which change nothing”.

This constituency also has a special feature: the town of Pertuis is in Vaucluse, but it is part of Marseille Métropole. The majority of Pertuis’s workers go to work in Aix or Marseille. These voters position themselves mainly according to national political news or those in Bouches-du-Rhône.

And then there are all those who feel far from politics, far from cities. On the Sault plateau, citizens want a deputy who is close to them and who will restore public services.

Candidates’ proposals

The National Rally candidate, Catherine Rimbert, is already a regional RN councillor and opposition member in Carpentras. She aims “the grand slam. My urgency will be to carry out an inventory of medical services. Due to the distance from hospital services, local practitioners must be really supported.”

For the candidate of the New Popular Front, Céline Celce from Apt, the priority issue is “public services. National Rally voters are not racist. They are exhausted. The breakdown of public services encourages the rise of far-right voting. We must act for health services, education, school.”

On the right, Martin Lefevre took out his card with the Republicans a few days ago. This architect from Rustrel worked on the churches of Saint-Christol or Bédoin. He wants to tackle the housing problem. He explains that “the very significant tourist development, the very expensive second homes which are increasing, do not allow the population to find housing in dignified conditions”Martin Lefevre indicates that he does not envisage an agreement in the second round with the National Rally

The former Renaissance MP for Carpentras, Adrien Morenas, is also a candidate even though he was defeated two years ago in the 3rd constituency: “It’s always an advantage to have someone who has legislative experience. The problems I encountered in the 3rd district can be repeated in the 5th. I will invite all agricultural unions so that we define together their priorities for agricultural bills.”

Also a candidate in this 5th constituency, Alexandre Deshaies, a three-star hotelier in Gordes, ex-Jeune UMP now under the Reconquête label. He wants “increase purchasing power by saving on immigration.”
