Laâyoune – Members of the Chilean parliamentary delegation visiting Laâyoune said on Thursday that they were “impressed” by the remarkable development experienced by the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region and the projects launched in all areas.

The members of the Chilean parliamentary delegation, who are currently on a working visit to Morocco, expressed their admiration for the aspects of development and progress that the region is experiencing at all levels.

In a statement to the press, the president of the Chile-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, Jaime Naranjo Ortiz, stressed that this visit allowed the members of the delegation to learn about the reform projects in all directions launched in the different regions of the Kingdom.

“Chile and Morocco face similar challenges, particularly in terms of energy and urban planning,” noted Mr. Naranjo Ortiz, noting that the Republic of Chile wishes to benefit from the Moroccan experience, in particular in the field of town planning in desert regions.

He also stressed the importance of promoting exchanges of visits between Chilean and Moroccan officials.

For her part, the parliamentary deputy, Marcela Riquelme Aliaga indicated that Chile wishes to benefit from the successful experience of Morocco in matters of environment and fight against climate change, noting that this visit was an opportunity to learn about the Moroccan experience in this matter.

Similarly, Ms. Riquelme Aliaga expressed her admiration for the quality of the infrastructure and the potential that the region has, particularly in the areas of health and education, thanks to public and private investments.

In this context, she said that Chile wants to strengthen its bilateral cooperation with the Kingdom, particularly in cultural, economic and public works matters.

On this occasion, the members of the delegation followed a presentation on the development program of the commune of Laâyoune covering the various development projects included in the framework of the new development model of the southern provinces, and learned about the role of this elected body in the management of local affairs.

Subsequently, the Chilean parliamentary delegation held a meeting with the Wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, during which emphasis was placed on the development boom that the region is experiencing in different areas.

In addition, the delegation made field visits to several projects, where it saw first-hand the efforts made to ensure comprehensive and integrated development of the region. To this end, she visited the Cheikh Laghdaf stadium, the sports village, the Olympic swimming pool and the women’s club, as well as the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.

The delegation of the Chile-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group is composed of Carla Morales Maldonado, Catalina Del Real Mihovilovic, Cristian Moreira Barros, Juan Santana Castillo and Sofia Cid Versalovic.

It should be recalled that the delegation of Chilean parliamentarians held a series of meetings, notably with the President of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita.
