Promoted to Ligue 1 after two seasons in the lower tier, AS Saint-Etienne intends to strengthen itself. This is good, a first major recruit is close to signing up with the Greens.

AS Saint-Etienne achieved their objective. After missing the direct comeback in 2022/2023, the Greens had a very strong second part of the season under the orders of Olivier Dall’Oglio and ended up finishing in third place in Ligue 2. After a breathtaking double confrontation against at FC Metz, the Forez club managed to secure their ticket to the elite. A relief for a whole people who hoped to return to Ligue 1 as quickly as possible. Now, the hardest part begins for the Saint-Etienne management who will have to build a squad capable of sustaining ASSE in the first division in the coming years. The Greens have made good progress on the issue leading to Yunis Abdelhamid, the Moroccan central defender and a favorable outcome is very close for Saint-Etienne according to Foot Mercato.

Abdelhamid very close to joining Saint-Etienne

For several days, ASSE has been competing with Stade Brestois, third in the last championship and qualified for the next Champions League, to attract the 36-year-old player who is coming to the end of his contract at Stade de Reims after seven years spent in Champagne. The native of Montpellier refused Brest to sign up with ASSE and a total agreement seems to have been found between the two parties. The Moroccan international must now undergo his medical examination before joining the Greens. A big blow for Saint-Etienne which strengthens its defensive sector. A contract of one year plus an optional year is in the pipeline for the man who has played more than 250 matches with Reims and who knows Ligue 1 perfectly, having also played there with Dijon in 2016/2017.
