Banner, sign and union flags announce the color. Members of the Vivre à Poitiers-Sud neighborhood committee are running their petition which has already gathered 4,193 signatures in around ten days. This Thursday evening, June 27, 2024, more than 250 people followed their call to demonstrate – launched at the beginning of the week – in front of the Poste Libération office, in the Super U parking lot.

“160 users are received every day”

At the microphone, Sylvie Bachelier, president of the neighborhood committee, reaffirms: “We absolutely do not agree with the closure of the Poste Libération office, whose schedule we learned by 2024 through the press. »

On Tuesday June 11, 2024, the committee hastily invited residents to a first meeting which was to lay the foundations for actions to be put in place: petition, leafleting, door to door and gathering.

Two weeks later, in the ranks of the “against”, there are residents, members of the neighborhood committee, representatives of the Sud PTT unions, retirees from the CGT of La Poste as well as elected officials and three legislative candidates. .

“We are in front of one of the last post offices in Poitiers and Vienne, but for how long?” asks the representative of Sud PTT. Here, agents, members of the neighborhood committee, union representatives have decided to fight to keep this office. This closure would result in a loss of local services, longer and more expensive journeys for users but also the loss of five jobs.

And to give some more figures: “160 individual and business users are received every day in this office. In Vienne, out of 173 offices, 123 were eliminated and replaced by municipal postal agencies, urban relay points and Post relay points. This closure is part of a vast program to dismantle the public postal service that has been orchestrated for years. »

The outgoing MP Sacha Houlié explained that he contacted the management of La Poste the day after the first meeting of the neighborhood committee and obtained a twelve-month moratorium. For her part, Sylvie Bachelier, president, had to read aloud the letter sent the same day by the mayor of Poitiers, Léonore Moncond’huy, assuring them of her full support.

Residents also spoke out to denounce this closure of the post office, which they believe is unjustified.

Then, one by one, residents also spoke to express their attachment to this office and to the postal bank. Following which, the members of the committee decided to submit the petition next Tuesday to the management of La Poste.
