After two rounds of Division 1 of the Triathlon Series – the French club championship – La Rochelle Triathlon is in the red zone, in 15th and penultimate place in the elite with its women’s team, which is making its return to this level this season. This Saturday, June 29, in Bordeaux, in a usual sprint format (750 meters of swimming, 20 km of cycling, and 5 km on foot), La Rochelle will try to resist with its recruit, the Dutchwoman Eva Cornelisse, and her 4 faithful, Juliette Houart, Juliette Delagarde, Audrey Angibaud and Adeline Beauchet.

“We know that it will once again be a little difficult,” admits La Rochelle sports director Lionel Roye. But we still have a card to play given the gaps. There are only two points between us and Stade Poitevin, 13th and first non-relegation place. In September, we will have the return of our young people, who will no longer have an individual objective. » Indeed, one week before the French aquathlon championships in Dole (Jura), Léa Houart and Manon Pommé are taking it easy. Léa Houart will continue with the European Junior Championships from August 9 to 11 in Turkey, for which another Rochelais, Achille Besson, is also selected.

The boys near the podium

The Division 2 men’s team, relegated from D1 at the end of last season, finished in 4th place in the first round three weeks ago in Metz. Recent third in the French long distance championships, Valentin Rouvier leads the team with Rémi Delagarde, Vincent Migné, the Belgian Jasper Sabbe and Grégoire Gaucher. The objective is to stay close to the podium which will be synonymous with progression at the end of the season, despite very strong competition. “The level of the championship is very dense, there were 10 foreigners in the first 20 in Metz,” explains Lionel Roye.

Finally, Bordeaux hosts the French senior and U20 mixed relay championships where La Rochelle fields 4 teams. Last year, Luc Delagarde’s club won gold in U20 and took 10th place in senior.
