During the Montreux Christmas Market, which will take place from November 21 to December 24, the public transport offer will be reinforced. The aim is to relieve congestion in the city center and make it possible to reach the various sites of the event, which this year takes place between Vevey, Montreux and Villeneuve.
Thus, during the five weekends of the Christmas Market, the use of VMCV lines 201 and 204 is free from 1 p.m. until the end of the service. The frequency of lines 201 and 204 is also increased on Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. (one bus every 10 minutes).
With a view to encouraging people to come to the Christmas Market by train rather than by car, a combined offer RailAway is offered by Riviera Noël and the CFF: a 50% discount is offered on the transport ticket, with a cup of mulled wine and a pretzel offered as a bonus. Special trains are also chartered by the CFF from Friborg during four weekends of the event.
Six large car parks
In order to limit congestion situations in the city center of Montreux as much as possible, visitors who go to the event by vehicle are invited to use the parking lots available on the outskirts, at the exit of the three motorway access points for the event.
Parking will be distributed between the Nestlé car park in Vevey to the West, the P + R of Chailly-sur-Montreux and the Saussaz car park to the North, the Tronchenaz car park in Villeneuve and parking on plot 1111 in Noville south. The single parking rate is 8 francs per vehicle. The Rempart car park in La Tour-de-Peilz can also be used subsidiarily.
Closure of the Grand-Rue
If the situation requires it and on the orders of the Police, the Grand-Rue may be closed to traffic. Emergency vehicles and public transport as well as local residents will remain the only ones authorized. Finally, in order to restrict coach movements on Grand-Rue, a passenger drop-off and pick-up zone is set up on weekends on Rue du Lac, near Parc Vernex.
Coaches can drop off and pick up their passengers (maximum 20 minutes), but must then park in reserved spaces on the outskirts (Chailly, Villeneuve, Noville). Regarding pedestrian circulation within the Christmas Market, the organizers have widened the passage in certain places which posed a problem. Escape routes and information panels have also been provided to ensure the safety of visitors.
A situation update will be carried out regularly between the stakeholders during the event in order to adapt the system if necessary.
