At the corner of Place Nelson Mandela, in Joué-lès-Tours, several sheets are tied up this Thursday, June 27. Above, testimonials from local residents who wanted to put their emotions on paper since the victory of the National Rally in the last European elections and the dissolution of the National Assembly announced on June 9.

I can’t vote, I encourage everyone to vote. I am very afraid for “our” children and our future life“, can we read on one of these loose sheets. This action is organized by the social center of La Rabière and aims to raise awareness among local residents of the importance of voting.

Testimonies often filled with worry. Samira is 19 years old. She is Muslim and feels more and more stigmatized since the National Rally came first in the European elections. “I feel like I am constantly under attack about who I am. It scares me ! It’s not possible that there are so many people who think like that, because we just want to live here in peace with everyone, and for everyone to do what they want.“, she explains.

This action is essential according to Hanane, 39 years old. La Rabière is his childhood neighborhood. She has always lived there. And it is here that she raises her four children. “I grew up with a mother who woke me up on Sunday morning, who told me to go vote. There are some who are French, who are naturalized and who, in their country, did not necessarily vote. They did not think that a vote could have an impact. Our role as a mother is to say that it is a right and a duty.“, she says.

Next to her is Hélène. She lives right next to La Rabière, in the La Blotterie district. She did not vote in the last European elections, but on Sunday, she will return to the pollsto block the extreme right, but not only“, she says.

In 2022, almost one in two voters went to vote in the first round of the legislative elections in this 4th constituency of Indre-et-Loire.
