18 km long, Lake Bourget is an exceptional natural space nestled in the heart of the Savoie mountains, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Considered the largest lake in France, it is a unique place to discover in all seasons, including summer.
A mountain lake with a protected ecosystem
Lake Bourget is surrounded by the Épine massif, Mont du Chat, Chambotte, Mont Revard and Bauges. Which makes it the ideal space for mountain lovers. On its shores, several towns lie there, such as Aix-les-Bains and Bourget-du-Lac.
This stretch of turquoise water was created 19,000 years agowhen the glaciers retreated. Since then, it has been fed by the surrounding rivers and streams.

Between hikes, cultural visits and water sports
Lac du Bourget offers multiple possibilities to escape for a few days, and could well be the ideal place to clear your mind during the end-of-year celebrations. The mountain ranges that surround it allow you to enjoy wonderful slideshows by reaching, for example, the Ontex belvedere, the Chambotte belvedere or the Revard belvedere, specifies the Savoie Mont Blanc website.
The hikes are accessible via the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park. Towards Chautagne there is the GR 65, on the way to Saint-Jacques de Compostela.
