In 2024, the Lozère Chamber of Agriculture is organizing this event on the Gaec Pic dairy farm, which processes milk for the AOP Bleu d'Auvergne farmer.
Gaec Pic was founded in 1998 by Christian Pic and his mother, and includes 30 Abondance. In 2013, Montbéliardes joined this first herd. Today, the Gaec has 85 dairy cows, with 45% dairy males, 50% purebred Montbéliardes or Abondance females, and 5% crossbred calves. And in 2019, the partners joined the AOP Bleu d'Auvergne. Each year, 550,000 liters of milk are produced at Gaec Pic, including 340,000 liters processed on the farm and 210,000 liters sold in the dairy.
The AOP Bleu d'Auvergne represents more than 1,200 tonnes of cheese exported per year, for 43 million liters processed annually. In total, 5,250 tonnes of Bleu d'Auvergne are produced in one year.
All these developments were supported by technicians from the Lozère Chamber of Agriculture, and new projects are underway within the Gaec, including the construction of a building to accommodate dairy cows. The Chamber of Agriculture supports the Gaec Pic both in business advice (installation, transmission, search for partners, mobilization of investment aid) and through specialized advice (search for added value, diversification of sources of income, valorization woods, etc.), and also provides technical support to livestock farms, with performance monitoring, in particular.
Innov'action, the agricultural innovation program
Innov'action is an open day operation on farms and is intended to highlight innovations carried out by farmers involved in triple performance: environmental, social and economic.
Supported by the Chambers of Agriculture network since 2014, this label recognizes the innovation efforts made by farmers, who are also engaged in an ecological transition approach. Innovation is essential to enable farms to respond to the major challenges they face: climate change, environmental preservation, growth in food demand, but also competition on European and international markets. If innovation often comes from research or experimentation, it also exists on farms, initiated by “pioneer” farmers. Its implementation is a source of non-relocatable jobs and added value for rural areas.
In practice:
